Book page Which username and password do I use?

You will come across different sets of usernames and passwords whilst using The ProsePoint Factory.

  • Your user account at The ProsePoint Factory
  • The system username and password for accessing a site's filesystem
  • The admin user account for a site

Here is some clarification on what's what.

Your user account at The ProsePoint Factory

If you have signed up to The ProsePoint Factory, you have a user account at The ProsePoint Factory website at http://www.prosepoint.com. This user account is how you login to The ProsePoint Factory and access the Hosted ProsePoint service to create your sites.

In most instances, the username for this account was filled in when you filled out and submitted your sign-up form.

If you forget your password, you can recover it by visiting Request new password and following the instructions there.

System username and password for accessing filesystem

This username/password pair controls access to the filesystem of one of your sites. It is used if you need to upload or download files using FTP, SFTP or SCP.

The system username is the same as the subdomain of your site ie. for mysite.prosepoint.com the username is mysite.

The system password is the one you were asked to supply (or was randomly generated) when creating a new site.

The system username and password is used for FTP, SFTP or SCP access to your site's filesystem.

Please note that even though FTP is available, the use of FTP is discouraged because it is insecure. Please use SFTP or SCP instead.

If you find you do not need FTP, SFTP or SCP access to your service, you can choose a randomly generated system password and then forget what it is.

You can change the system password by going to your site's control panel and clicking on the Change Password button.

If you require SSH command line access, please file a support ticket and request it.

Admin user account for a site

This is the username and password for the first account of your website (commonly referred to as the 'admin' or 'administrator' account although the username doesn't have to be either). This was setup during the installation of your site.

This is used for logging into your site and doing site maintenance operations such as running update.php.

You can change your admin username and password by logging into your site, clicking on My account and then click on Edit.
